2007-2008 Team
The Penn State Equestrian Team, established in 1971 at Eastwood Farms in Bellefonte, is comprised of about 60-70 members who have an interest in horses and English hunt seat riding. Tryouts are held at the beginning of each academic year, open to all full-time undergraduate students and riders of all levels of skill and experience, as well as students without any previous riding experience except a wish to learn and improve. The team takes lessons at Eastwood Farms at least once per week and attends mandatory Wednesday evening meetings held on campus. In addition, the team is active with social events, fund-raisers, and invitational shows.
The Penn State Equestrian Team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and competes in all levels of riding, from Walk-Trot to Open Fences. The team hosts horse shows at Eastwood Farms, as well as travels to compete at other universities within Zone 3, Region 1. In 2006, Penn State held the Reserve National Champion title at the IHSA National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA. The Penn State Equestrian team has had a strong history, with many riders individually qualifying for Regionals, Zones, and Nationals.
